The Turing Foundation strives to offer children and young people in developing countries the kind of education that can help them structurally, encourage their independence and autonomy, and make them better able to contribute to their communities.
The Turing Foundation regards education as a means to offer people new opportunities in their lives in a constructive, structural and respectful way. Moreover, education benefits not only the individual, but also his environment and society as a whole. It can be seen as a sustainable method of poverty reduction.
As from 2008, the main aim of our policy is to increase the availability of high quality education in developing countries. In order to reach our goals, we will focus on:
- primary education (from the age of 6);
- secondary education;
- and vocational training, as a specific area of interest.

Application procedures for education
|
The Turing Foundation does not employ an open application procedure for educational projects yet. The management occasionally approaches organisations and initiatives directly and invites them to submit an application.
This means that as yet, there is no use in submitting educational applications to us. However, you can keep us informed on your activities in writing, especially if these activities comply with the working areas and the criteria mentioned. We would very much appreciate your filling out the complete project summary form.
We will confirm to have received your information and will contact you if it gives cause to do so. The information sent to us by you will not be returned. We thank you in advance for your understanding.
The following criteria and conditions are applicable:
- We finance only projects that comply with our objectives and that meet our conditions;
- We support only projects that are aimed at improving the accessibility of good-quality education.
- We give priority to projects in countries that fall within our geographical focus area:
- West-Africa: Niger, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon
- Africa - Great Lakes Region: D.R.Congo, Kenya, Tanzania
- South-Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh
- Southeast Asia: Cambodia, Laos
- We have a preference for:
- Projects that focus on underprivileged children and young people in developing countries;
- Educational projects that contribute to the establishment of an independent middle class;
- Education aimed at teaching basic skills (primary and secondary education) and professional skills (vocational education);
- Educational projects that focus on girls;
- Education that teaches how to work and live within the environment in a sustainable way.
- Educational projects must suit the local needs and opportunities, and the application must be based on a local initiative;
- The executive organisation and the target group itself must contribute to the project;
- We support regular education only; special education is not eligible for funding;
- We support building projects only if there is a thorough plan for the first six years of exploitation;
- We only work with non-profit organisations (N.B. we will not consider applications from private individuals);
- The project is non-profit distributing;
- The project can be assessed, has quantifiable results and is executed during a clearly defined period of time;
- A project budget that exceeds €25,000 requires that after completion of the project a closing statement certified by an accountant be submitted to us;
- We preferably support projects that are funded by more than one source. Our educational donations will therefore usually subsidize part of the project;
- The Turing Foundation does not support:
- Private individuals;
- Educational projects for children below the age of 6;
- Projects aimed at academic education (university studies);
- Initiatives/organisations with strictly commercial, political or religious objectives;
