Mariene Conservation, Patagonia, Argentina, 2026-2028
Fundación Por el Mar is an Argentine organisation dedicated to protecting marine habitats in Patagonia.
The project focuses on one of South America's most biodiverse and ecologically valuable marine ecosystems and comprises three strands:
protecting kelp forests, restoring threatened shark populations and establishing a new marine protected area.
Despite having been established only recently, Por el Mar has already achieved significant results,
including the designation of new marine protected areas,
legislation protecting about 90% of Argentina's kelp forests and the establishment of the country's first regenerative seaweed farm.
The Turing Foundation is contributing €180,000 towards this project (of which €70,000 in 2026).
